Chapter History

The Zeta Omicron Chapter of Sigma Tau Gamma were first colonized in the spring of 2016. From the first day, they prided themselves on being a very diverse fraternity. They have also been very ambitious in goals and have strived to grow at an exponential rate over the past year and a half. When it started off, they were a group of high achieving individuals but strangers to each other. None of them knew anything about what it truly means to be in a fraternity, let alone run it. But with some amazing guidance from the national organization and some persistence, they began to make progress. Ricci Lopez, Alan Leung and Drew Thomas helped in securing a house for the fall of 2017. The importance of having a centralized location to establish permanence on a campus as big as Michigan State University cannot be stressed on enough. Currently, as a brotherhood of 36 members, they are edging closer to chartering and becoming an official chapter of the fraternity. They have also worked with brothers from Central Michigan University and Western Michigan University to spread awareness of Sigma Tau Gamma and provide all the brothers an opportunity to network and meet different people. The Zeta Omicron Chapter has also actively taken part in nationally hosted events by sending five brothers to Grand Chapter in 2016 as well as the Nobleman Institute and Webb Academy. The chapter takes pride and gives back to the community. One example is the food bank at Michigan State University, hosting philanthropy events like the Polar Plunge to support Special Olympics and working together with the Inter-Fraternity Council and other Greek organizations to make the society a better place.

Chapter Funds

A Chapter Fund is a restricted account from the Sigma Tau Gamma Foundation. In this case, the restriction is that the funds and earnings on the investment of the funds may be used only for a particular chapter, meaning that if you donate to your chapter’s fund, it may only be used for your chapter.

Chapter Funds may be used to:

  • Award scholarships based on academic and leadership criteria
  • Technology grants for purchase and upgrade of chapter computer technology
  • Educational facility grants to the selected chapter
  • Leadership education grants for participation in institutes, seminars, and conventions.

The Foundation manages the fund. This management includes fund accounting, investing, and preparing required reports for the Internal Revenue Service. The policy of the Foundation Board of Trustees is to involve chapter alumni association leaders in the creation of criteria, formation of program priorities and selection of grant recipients.
