Chapter History

The Sigma Tau Gamma Beta Iota Chapter was colonized in the fall of 1959 and is believed to be the first social fraternity at California State Teacher’s College. It originated with 22 young men intent on practicing the ideals established by a nationally recognized fraternity. In the decades since, the chapter has been the venue for hundreds of young men to enjoy and grow under the auspices of brotherhood.

Over the years, the chapter has produced brothers that would move on to have very productive and successful careers. Some have become entrepreneurs, business consultants, federal and state executives, military officers, school teachers, investment managers, bank officers, and many other responsible positions. One former brother, Jeff Petrucci, had even returned to coach the California Vulcans football team. Stan “The Man” Musial, the legendary baseball hall of fame member, also hails from the Beta Iota Chapter. Whatever the trade, Sig Tau alumni have made a difference and can fondly look back to their days as an undergraduate member. Brotherhood truly is a lifetime privilege. The Beta Iota Chapter remains a leading member of California University’s Greek Life and will continue to foster noble men to carry on the traditions of the chapter.
