In June, after a thorough two-year review the Sigma Tau Gamma Board of Directors announced that it is relocating its national headquarters from Warrensburg, Mo. to Indianapolis in early 2018. The entire Sigma Tau Gamma organization, which includes the Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity, the Sigma Tau Gamma Foundation, and the WPN National Housing Company, will relocate to Indianapolis as a central headquarters location for the growing organization.
With this news, the Board of Directors in conjunction with the Headquarters Staff will be hosting a decommissioning ceremony for the Marvin Millsap Sigma Tau Gamma Headquarters building on November 4, 2017.
With the excitement, we naturally know questions about the event on November 4th will be asked. Below, you can find some of the most frequently asked questions regarding the Decommissioning Ceremony of the Marvin Millsap Sigma Tau Gamma Headquarters building.
Q: What is a Decommissioning Ceremony?
A: A decommissioning is a public form of making something inactive or is the act of officially retiring something specific. The term decommissioning is often used in the military, specifically when it comes to commissioning or decommissioning a ship used by the United States Military.
Q: Why is the Warrensburg Headquarters being Decommissioned?
A: Since we are moving our headquarters to Indianapolis, we want to pay our respects to our current headquarters and all the good she has given us over the years. Essentially, we are closing the building as Sigma Tau Gamma Headquarters so we’re having a small ceremony before we move. There will be new tenants in the building sometime in 2018 not directly affiliated with the fraternity.
Q: What is happening to the engraved bricks outside of the White Rose Pavilion in the White Rose Garden?
A: The engraved bricks will be moved to Indianapolis and be placed in a walkway leading to the main entrance of the facility. A White Rose Garden will be part of the landscaping plan on the new Headquarters property.
Q: When does the new Headquarters officially open?
A: Our new location in Indianapolis will officially open in March 2018.
Q: Will there be a ribbon cutting ceremony or grand opening? If so, when?
A: The new Headquarters will be dedicated in Indianapolis on Saturday, May 5, 2018. The dedication will be open to all members of Sigma Tau Gamma as well as friends of Sig Tau.
Q: What will the new Headquarters be called? Is it going to keep the Marvin Millsap name?
A: The new Headquarters will be referred to as Sigma Tau Gamma Headquarters.
Q: When can I visit the new Headquarters?
A: Visitors are welcome anytime after the official opening of the facility in March 2018. All are invited to the Dedication Ceremony on Saturday, May 5, 2018.
Q: Do I need an appointment to visit the new Headquarters?
A: No appointments are needed to visit the current Headquarters or future Headquarters of Sigma Tau Gamma. If groups or individuals would like to visit either Headquarters facility outside of Monday – Friday business hours, please submit a request via email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
