Chapter Operations and Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Safety
INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA ā€“ In light of the recent developments and continued impact surrounding Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), Sigma Tau Gamma Headquarters Staff would like to share important information with you to help ensure all of our members stay safe and practice healthy habits.
State and federal health officials are actively monitoring the outbreak of respiratory illness caused by Coronavirus Disease. As the immediate risk of this new virus to the American public is still evolving at this time, Sigma Tau Gamma Staff encourages members to review the everyday preventive actions recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases.
Per the CDC, the best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. However, as a reminder, the CDC always recommends everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, including:
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
- If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
Sigma Tau Gamma Headquarters Staff is also working closely with universities and trusted partners in higher education to be proactive concerning chapter operations. As of March 11, several colleges and universities have altered normal operations for students. Chapters should follow campus guidelines as well as follow Sigma Tau Gammaā€™s Member Safety and Wellness Policy.
Chapters should use best judgement while conducting chapter business and should continue to hold regular meetings provided it is safe to do so. Technology such as TEAMS, Skype, Facetime, and Google Hangout may also be utilized for meetings and committee work as necessary. Due to growing concerns, please refrain from exchanging handshakes or using the official grip of Sigma Tau Gamma.Ā
