National Philanthropy

Sig Tau began its partnership with the Special Olympics in 2011, making it the Fraternity’s official philanthropy. Each chapter is expected to provide service or funds directly to the Special Olympics. Learn more about how you can volunteer for the Special Olympics:

Along with Sig Tau’s official philanthropy, each chapter is expected to also:

1. Support a local charitable partner.

Our chapters accomplish this goal by performing service in and for their communities. Individual chapters have programs to assist veterans, clean highways, feed the homeless, and benefits libraries, just to name a few.

2. Support the charitable event of another fraternity or sorority.

Being a good citizen also requires that we support the efforts of other organizations that do good work. Our chapters accomplish this by participating in philanthropies sponsored by other fraternity and sorority organizations.

Each year, Sig Tau awards the “Robert Nagel Jones Charitable Projects Award” to those chapters who exemplify the spirit of giving to others.

Spread the Word to End the Word

Sig Tau Fraternity has joined with the Special Olympics’ campaign to “Spread the Word to End the Word”, an effort encouraging people nationwide to pledge to stop using the derogatory word “retard.” The campaign is devoted to educating and raising awareness about individuals with intellectual disabilities and the offensive use of the “R-word” in casual conversation. The annual day of awareness is March 2nd.

We ask collegiate and alumni members to take the pledge to End the Word at www.R-Word.org. Also, we encourage family, friends, co-workers, and students to take this oath.
