Helping Shape Sig Tau for Future Generations
Jeremiah King, Missouri S&T, is a proud Sig Tau, a member of the Fraternity Board of Directors, and most importantly – a father to three young sons. He credits Sig Tau in helping him on his journey as a parent and hopes to help shape a fraternity that his sons would be proud to be members of someday.
Joining a fraternity was not a tough choice for King since he spent much of his life in strong male groups. He grew up with three brothers, was active in Boy Scouts, and attended an all-male high school. Finding a community of like-minded men in college to engage with seemed like an easy choice and Sig Tau was the right fit.
“Boy Scouts taught me the skills to be a leader but Sig Tau really showed me how to enact them and use them and that has helped me as a dad,” King said.
As we endeavor forward, brothers like King think of what fraternity looks like for the next generation of young men like his own sons. “I want to see fraternity as a whole continue to do better. For Sig Tau, we’re pushing against old stereotypes and building a fraternity that shapes noble men. I hope we continue to grow and expand.”
King plans to encourage his sons to join a fraternity if they attend college and hopes he can instill how meaningful his experience was and how it shaped him.
“My advice to my sons as they grow up and to the young men starting their journey is to not be afraid. To get involved. To take chances. To stand up for what you believe. Speak up when you need to but more importantly to know when to listen. And never take life too seriously to not enjoy the moment and your experience.”
