Mike Felmlee & His Brotherhood Story

Published on May 6, 2020 in News, Foundation

Nearly $30,000 of debt for the Delta Upsilon Chapter at Penn State Behrend was erased in less than a year because of the leadership of one alumni brother.

Meet Mike Felmlee, Penn State Behrend – this is his brotherhood story.

When Mike decided to re-engage with his chapter, he never imagined it would mean taking on the role of lead advisor. What started as attending the Chapter’s White Rose Formal to meet active brothers, quickly turned into volunteering. In what seemed like no time, he was asked to become an advisor for the chapter. So there he found himself, ready to make sure the chapter stayed out of trouble and trying to instill the same values he gained from Sigma Tau Gamma in the current and future members.

But Mike soon learned there was one major obstacle he would need to help the chapter overcome – a mountain of financial difficulties. After three semesters of working with the chapter, he reached out to Headquarters to find out the severity of the chapter’s financial situation. That’s when he learned that the Delta Upsilon Chapter was behind by $27,000.

Upon learning of this burden, Mike got to work. The process wasn’t easy, but Mike doesn’t want any of the praise for this accomplishment. He credits the hard work to the chapter brothers and active alumni group. They worked together to raise the funds and get back on track. Mike said the most rewarding part was seeing a culture change in the chapter and working with brothers that are no longer overwhelmed and burdened with financial troubles. Now, these hardworking brothers are able to experience all the best parts of brotherhood and what being a member of Sigma Tau Gamma means.  And to Mike – that’s what makes it worth it.

We’re pleased to highlight Mike and his Sig Tau story during this Founder’s Day Challenge. He is one of many brothers helping to Honor our History and Build our Future. Donate today to celebrate brothers like Mike and help us raise $100,000 to celebrate Sig Tau’s 100 years of Brotherhood.
