Paul Motin Joins the Society of the Seventeen

Published on January 17, 2025 in News

Upon initiation at our Winona State (Minnesota) Chapter, Brother Motin quickly served in a number of leadership roles including VP of Management, Education and Membership before being elevated to President. Upon graduation, he was appointed a District Governor, State Director and then Regional Vice President for the Great Lakes Area, Beginning in 1984 he became official Secretary of the national Conclave and has served in that capacity for every meeting since then with the exception of 1988 (Bar Exam) and 1990 (honeymoon). Receiving an appointment to the Foundation Board of Trustees in 2001, he has been its Secretary for multiple terms and continues his active engagement as VP-Investments. Apparently needing even more to do, he also accepted a seat on the National Alumni Advisory Council in 2018.

Paul characterized his response to this recognition as, “I am extremely humbled to have been selected by my Brothers in the Society for this extraordinary honor given in recognition of service to the Fraternity. It means so much to me to be recognized by those I have looked up to for the many years since my initiation 45 years ago (Yikes!). From Buz Barlow, then National President who signed my Membership Certificate, through long time CEO Bill Bernier to past Society Chairman Kenley Hoover who instilled in me the belief that “Sig Tau is for Life.” Participating in and serving Sigma Tau Gamma is what I love to do, to give back to those who come after me. Attending annual events like Conclave and Webb are true homecomings for me and something I have really looked forward to over the years.”

Having over 30 years of experience as an Attorney/CPA, complemented by a prestigious Masters of Legal Letters (LLM) in Taxation, Paul has been honored annually as an Illinois Super Lawyer since 2020. Licensed in Illinois, Minnesota and Michigan, Paul graduated from Mitchell Hamline College of Law with the degree of Juris Doctor (JD). Paul continuously is encouraged and supported on his Sig Tau journey by his beautiful wife Tammy.
