Two students at Cameron University received scholarships from the Gamma Rho Chapter of Sigma Tau Gamma. The scholarships are to help with book expenses for the upcoming academic year andĀ were given to sophomore Tyler Williams, and freshmen transfer student Nathanial Stewart. Gamma Rho Chapter President Joved Serrano, Cameron, said the scholarships were provided by Headquarters because of a grant from the Sigma Tau Gamma Foundation.

Alumni Association President Robert Champ spearheaded the entire process. We had over 100 people apply for the scholarships, Serrano said. We had a table set-up for the first three days of school and people stopped by to apply.Ā  The E-Board got together, and after a couple of hours of looking at applications, we decided on the two recipients.

Both Tyler and Nathanial were invited to a Gamma Rho Chapter Cookout and upon arriving, had no idea they were receiving the checks.

Once they arrived at the barbecue, we surprised them by handing over the checks, Serrano said. Seeing the guys shock and happiness of them winning was pretty cool.

The brothers at Cameron are hopeful these scholarships will continue each year to support their recruitment efforts.
