In a year that brought new and unexpected challenges, the brothers of the Beta Kappa Chapter at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse refused to let that stop them from endeavoring forward. Instead, they displayed great resilience and found creative ways to maintain brotherhood. They strengthened relationships, stayed engaged on campus, and continued to grow their chapter. 

2021 Noble Man Hall of Fame Inductee and current Beta Kappa Chapter Director of Recruitment Zach Hanson, UW – La Crosse, did not want to lose the camaraderie the chapter had, and presented opportunity after opportunity to keep guys connected.

“When we couldn’t all get together, we met up in smaller groups of two or three. We went bowling or got coffee. We called and texted each other to check-in. We built one-on-one relationships and that made all of us closer as brothers,” said Hanson.

In addition to strengthening the bond of brotherhood through these improvised meet-ups, the chapter also continued to stay involved and build a reputation on campus as noble gentlemen. The brothers continued their involvement in Operation: River Watch, a public safety initiative that helps prevent drowning accidents in a local park along the Mississippi River.

They also supported the Special Olympics by hosting their first Ice-Fish-A-Thon. The event was a massive success, raising more than $4,000 for the Special Olympics and bringing a fun experience for the brothers to spend time together. 

More than anything, the chapter looks forward to continuing to grow next year. They have established their Sig Tau story and are living it among their brothers and are ready to share that story as they grow.

“This has been a minimal year and we couldn’t do a lot but we never let that stop our momentum. We had to adapt and learn and make things work for us – no excuses,” Hanson said. “I’m optimistic that it’s only up from here. We never gave up, we never stopped caring. We’re passionate and dedicated and I’m excited to see that grow. I’m excited for what comes next.”
