Chapter History
Sigma Tau Gamma’s Epsilon Xi Chapter at Saint Louis University, located in St. Louis, Missouri, was chartered on April 23, 2005. From 2005 to 2008, Epsilon Xi had strong enrollment, and became a successful chapter on campus, even winning Greek Week in their first year on campus. As time went on, the Chapter was reduced to only one member by the end of 2009, a sophomore named Christopher Fidler.
Matthew Rea, a member of the founding class, remained involved with the chapter as much as he could. Ryan Finke and Frank Vanco were in charge of the recruiting effort to rebuild this once promising chapter. Through their collective effort, they demonstrated the value of being a part of this brotherhood. They successfully identified eligible candidates to take on the challenge of building a chapter and laid the foundation of what has become a thriving brotherhood.
John Carney, Chris Fidler, Jacob Jewulski, Brian Lee, Mark Ofreneo, Peter Orth and Gene Rodemich, joined the brotherhood in the Fall of 2010. Matt Rea supervised this group and provided guidance, alongside Ryan and Frank. There was great adversity to be faced when establishing their presence within the Greek community. By setting academic goals, building bonds, participating in university events, and involvement in community service, the Epsilon Xi chapter became a reputable and respected organization within the university and the local community.
Each new class of members contributed significantly to the effort of rebuilding this chapter. The concept of brotherhood was taken seriously and treated with respect. By the summer of 2015, Epsilon Xi had fourteen members. The Epsilon Xi chapter participates in collaborative projects with other Greek organizations. They were winners of SLU Greek week, which feature competitions of skill and philanthropy, as
well as Delta Gamma’s Anchor Splash. Brothers of this organization showcased their academic, athletic, musical and leadership talents
through membership in campus organizations. Brothers can be found in various athletic clubs, musical groups, theatrical productions, and as members of several executive committees of campus organizations.
This chapter participated in community building efforts throughout Saint Louis, which included building repair, gardening, and cleaning. The Epsilon Xi chapter is also a consistent participant of SLU’s Make a Difference Day event.
Epsilon Xi hosts a philanthropy week each year, which encourages the university community to contribute to a greater cause. In this particular case, this brotherhood has partnered with Special Olympics. Philanthropy week proves to be a success every year, with significant contributions to the Special Olympics community. In addition to university events, brothers participate in Special Olympics volunteer events. Bowling outings with Special Olympics members and fundraisers are just a few examples of how these brothers engage the community.
Alumni members of this chapter can be found from coast to coast, each one being an outstanding member within their communities. Each class of brothers becomes more impressive every year, consistently passing milestones with their efforts. As it stands now, this chapter has
more than 70 members, and the brotherhood remains strong. This brotherhood was built to contribute to those around them, and they continue to do that.
