Theta Chapter Honors the Life and Legacy of Brother Joe Miller with Memorial Golf Tournament
CARMEL, INDIANA – On the coldest morning of the month, Theta Chapter at Northwest Missouri State University gathered for a day that meant far more than golf. Their inaugural memorial tournament on April 18th was created to honor the life of brother Joe Miller, who passed away after battling cancer.
The tournament brought together students, alumni, and community members at Mozingo Lake Golf Course in Maryville, Missouri, creating a meaningful day of remembrance and connection. Brother Andrew White shared that the event “surpassed every expectation.” Planning began in late November, and by tournament day the event welcomed 144 golfers, more than 20 volunteers, and generous support from sponsors; an impressive turnout for the event.

Brothers Andrew White and Owen Shotkoski led the planning efforts, supported by volunteers who managed check-in, photographs, and more. The event featured breakfast, a buffet lunch, and a silent auction filled with items donated by alumni.
A Powerful Moment of Remembrance
The most memorable moment of the day came during the scholarship presentation. The chapter awarded a $500 scholarship in brother Miller’s name, funded entirely by tournament proceeds. Every dollar raised went directly to the scholarship fund. Thanks to the event’s success, the scholarship is funded for at least eight years, ensuring brother Miller’s legacy continues to uplift future members.

Brother Miller was known for his positivity, resilience, and unwavering kindness, even while facing incredibly difficult circumstances. “You would’ve never known what he was going through with his health. He always showed up for people,” shared brother White.
The scholarship criteria reflect the values brother Miller embodied:
- Uplifts those around them
- Maintains a positive mindset
- Shows up and gives full effort
- Supports brothers without hesitation
A Legacy That Lives On
For Theta Chapter, the day represented far more than a tournament, it was a heartfelt celebration of a brother whose influence continues to shape their brotherhood. Through this event, the chapter created a lasting tribute to brother Joe Miller, one that reflects his love for golf, his love for people, and the profound impact he made on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
