A dedicated brother, a student athlete, and an active figure in his campus community, when Lukas Dietzen commits to something – he’s all in. 

“I strive to put 100 percent into everything that I do whether on campus or off. During my undergraduate years, I pushed myself to become a better person. I took leadership roles. I had the honor to lead my chapter as President for two years. This leadership role taught me a lot about myself, my brothers, and the brotherhood of Sigma Tau Gamma.”

Serving two years as President of the Zeta Phi Associate Chapter, Dietzen credits Sig Tau with developing his leadership skills and confidence. This dedication continued outside the Fraternity; Dietzen was a member of the Student Senate, served as Vice President of the Sports Medicine Club, volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters, and was a member of the Track & Field team at Carroll.

Balancing academics, extracurriculars, and service was a major commitment. Dietzen wanted to maintain his involvement on and off campus without the financial stress of tuition. In 2018, he applied for the Stan Musial and Eric H. Hillman Sportsmanship Award. To his surprise, he received the award and the accompanying scholarship. A year later, he applied for the Ted and Theresa Priem Undergraduate Scholarship. When he learned he would also receive this scholarship, he was filled with gratitude.

“After being awarded two scholarships it showed that you should always just apply – no matter the chapter you come from, there is a chance. This scholarship allowed me to afford my tuition for my senior year. It allowed me to finish my bachelor’s degree with less financial burden and to focus on applying to graduate school.”

That focus got Dietzen into the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at Carroll University. Set to graduate in May 2023, he is eager to pursue a career in the field of sports medicine. But even with a demanding workload and a busy schedule, he still makes time for his brothers. Dietzen knows continued support of undergraduate brothers is critical. 

“Not many other organizations or clubs on campus have scholarships available. They don’t push you or support you through that financial barrier, not the same way Greek life does. Having more scholarships would be huge for brothers. A larger pool of opportunities would mean more money could be available to members all across the country. That’s more support helping more brothers.”
