Spring Break: Make It Legendary—And Safe

Published on March 24, 2025 in News

Spring Break is all about making memories that last a lifetime. But as a Sig Tau, you also carry a responsibility—to yourself, your brothers, and the reputation of our fraternity. That means having a great time while staying smart, safe, and looking out for each other.

Here are some key tips to keep your Spring Break fun, hassle-free, and unforgettable (for the right reasons):

Travel Smart & Stay Aware

  • Road trips? Rotate drivers. Stay sharp behind the wheel, and make sure your car has registration, insurance, and all drivers have a valid license.
  • Download offline maps. Google Maps lets you save routes in case you lose service. A physical map as backup never hurts.
  • Use rideshares wisely. Always verify the driver and car details before getting in. Stay aware of your route.
  • Know the local scene. Research your destination’s safety tips, customs, and travel warnings before you go.
  • Carry only what you need. A day’s worth of cash and a debit/credit card is enough—keep valuables locked up.
  • Remember: Stuff can be replaced—you can’t. If faced with a robbery, don’t resist. Stay calm and get to safety.

Sun, Sand, & Staying Safe

  • Alcohol + sun = trouble. Heat and booze can dehydrate you fast. Alternate drinks with water and know your limits.
  • Sunscreen isn’t optional. Use waterproof SPF 15+ and reapply every two hours. You can burn even when it’s cloudy.
  • Swimming? Never go alone or drunk. Even strong swimmers can get caught in rip currents. If you do, swim parallel to the shore instead of fighting it.

Drinking Done Right

  • Set your limits before the night starts. You make the best decisions when sober—decide your boundaries ahead of time.
  • Know the local laws. Underage drinking, public intoxication, or open container laws vary. Don’t be that guy who ends up in legal trouble.
  • Never drink and drive. Uber, Lyft, designated drivers—use them. No excuses.
  • Pace yourself. Your body processes alcohol differently depending on what you drink, how much you’ve eaten, and how often you drink.
  • Stick with your crew. Arrive together, leave together. Look out for each other and step in if something seems off.

Spring Break should be a blast—but it’s on you to make sure it stays that way. Be smart, stay safe, and look out for your brothers.
