RENO, NEVADA – Celebrating over brunch on Saturday, October 20, 2018, the Zeta Lambda Chapter at Nevada Reno was recognized for their tremendous efforts and accomplishments, receiving their charter. The group was joined by friends, family, and loved ones who congratulated and celebrated this significant milestone in the chapter and individual journies of brotherhood. The Zeta Lambda Charter was granted by Sigma Tau Gamma’s 40 National President, Jim Johnston, Carnegie Mellon, and Chief Operating Officer and Interim Chief Executive Officer, Vanessa Ryan.

In addition to the Founding Fathers in attendance were Headquarters Staff member Associate Director of Collegiate Services, Kassi Ward and notable alumni including Sigma Tau Gamma Foundation Trustee Emeritus, Joe Feldhouse, Cleveland State; and National Alumni Advisory Council member Clayton Whitehead, Georgia.

The Nevada Reno Chapter was installed as an associate chapter in the spring semester of 2017 and has flourished. During their first semester, the chapter achieved a 3.23 GPA – the highest in the Fraternity and Sorority Life Community at Nevada Reno. The men of the Zeta Lambda chapter have volunteered at the Desert Spring Baptist Church distributing food to families in need; participated in the Remote Area Medical Volunteer Corps to support medical and optometric services to community members; and assisted high school athletes during the 2018 Northern Nevada Basketball Regional Tournament.  The chapter has also hosted workshops and speakers regarding the value of diversity, student conduct and fraternity culture, on-campus volunteer and engagement opportunities, event planning resources, Green Dot and sexual assault prevention training, and how to build important relationships with the University of Nevada, Reno Police Department. 

“Chartering was a huge achievement for us! Chartering was definitely more than a nice ceremony and a piece of paper, it served as a benchmark for future success within the chapter. It’s amazing to see the work of a small group of brothers turn into a tangible success,” Chapter President, Matthew Dijamco said. “Zeta Lambda is no stranger to hard work and will definitely uphold the momentum we’ve created through the acquisition of our charter. One of the most unique aspects of Zeta Lambda is our commitment to creating positive culture change within the greek community as we firmly believe that Sig Tau is the fraternity of the 21st century. We plan to make monumental impacts through the lifespan of Zeta Lambda.”
