INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA – Sigma Tau Gamma Headquarters has learned that Society of Seventeen Inductee and Sigma Tau Gamma Foundation Trustee Emeritus Jack Balderson, IU Pennsylvania entered Chapter Eternal on October 24, 2018. Jack served on the Fraternity Board of Directors, was Vice President of the Three Rivers Region, and was inducted into the Society of Seventeen in 2008.

Jack was initiated into the Pi Chapter at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1954. He dedicated his life and career to students and higher education serving as Dean of Students at Robert Morris University. While serving at Robert Morris, the Delta Psi Chapter was established on campus, and Jack was the founding chapter advisor to the group.

“He cared about students and wanted to make their college experience better,” Sigma Tau Gamma Foundation Past Chairman Tom Janicki, Carnegie Mellon said. “Once I met Jack, I knew our new associate chapter was in good hands, and he was exceptional in his mentoring of our young men and constantly challenged our new group to do better. Jack always had time to listen, always had time to assist any student or brother in need.”

CEO Emeritus Bill Bernier, Kent State, said Jack was a mentor and an ideal brother.

“I first knew him as an exemplary dean of students. As a regional officer and member of the Board of Directors, Jack was the ultimate advocate for students,” Bernier said.

Chapter Brother and fellow Sigma Tau Gamma Foundation Trustee Emeritus Kenley Hoover, IU Pennsylvania echoed similar sentiments about Jack.

“It was Jack that put the Robert Morris Chapter on the map,” Hoover said. “He helped to make the Books for Kids Program a real success. Jack was President of Pi Alumni Association and Trustee of Pi Hoover Fund. He was a true Sig Tau for Life.”
