Epsilon Chapter President Expands Impact as Founder of Pitt State Wrestling Club

CARMEL, INDIANA – When Sophomore Josh Lawrie began his term as president of the Epsilon Chapter at Pittsburg State University this January, he set out to make an immediate impact. Just weeks into his presidency, that goal is already taking shape through recruitment growth, campus leadership, and expanded student opportunities.

This spring, Brother Lawrie has helped guide the Epsilon Chapter through recruitment, welcoming eight new members and bringing total membership to 44. The chapter is also organizing a fundraising initiative in which donors receive a Sig Tau wristband in support of Special Olympics, while preparing to host an Alumni Day celebration in early May honoring the chapter’s founding.

Brother Lawrie entered his role as president prepared to lead. Earlier this year, he attended Webb Academy, the fraternity’s national leadership training program, where he refined his leadership approach and planning strategies. During that experience, he also became a Collegiate Sustaining Member, contributing to the Sig Tau Leadership Fund and future programming.

While his presidency is just beginning, Brother Lawrie is already a leader on campus. In March 2025, he founded the Pitt State Wrestling Club to provide students with an opportunity to continue the sport competitively and recreationally. The club now includes 27 members and recently competed in its first meet in Columbus, Kansas, facing Oklahoma Baptist University. The club continues working to grow through recruitment, fundraising, and campus outreach.

Beyond student organizations, Lawrie works at the university recreation center, provides private wrestling lessons, and serves in student government. He also plans to run for Student Government Association vice president later this semester.

Reflecting during Black History Month, Lawrie emphasizes the importance of visible leadership. “Representation matters, especially in places where minority leaders aren’t always visible. I hope my presence shows others that they belong here. Leadership starts with showing up and continuing to show up.”

Brother Lawrie is helping shape the direction of the Epsilon Chapter while creating new opportunities for students across campus to leave a lasting impact at Pitt State.
