Epsilon Tau Receives Charter
Expansion Counselors Derek Kaimann, Beta ’10, and Paul Manly, Epsilon Rho ’11, began on-campus recruitment efforts during the fall of 2011 with assistance from Phired Up Productions. The UNCC expansion project was the first project that Kaimman and Manly conducted together. Since the establishment of this provisional chapter, the members have worked hard to become involved on campus in a variety of leadership positions. They have also utilized a values based recruitment system that has resulted in many high achieving men joining Sig Tau at UNCC.
The collegiate members at UNCC have demonstrated a true commitment to the high ideals and principles of Sigma Tau Gamma. They are campus leaders, have placed a special focus on living the Ritual, and participate in numerous philanthropy and community service projects. They also have exceptionally strong relationships with many of the student organizations and administrators on campus, said Director of Expansion Michael Smoll, Delta ’03.
On Friday night, five associate members were initiated into the Fraternity. Ken Vaughn, Delta Delta ’86, Atlantic Coast Regional Vice President, Smoll and Morgan assisted the collegiate men in conducting the Ceremony of ¨Initiation. On Saturday the collegiate men participated in a chartering retreat that was held on the UNCC campus and was facilitated by Greg Rumpf, Beta ’79, who serves at the UNCC alumni advisor, Vaughn, Smoll, and Morgan.
On Sunday afternoon, the installation ceremony was held on the UNCC campus. More than 100 people, which included parents, advisors, members of the UNCC fraternity and sorority community along with other campus leaders, significant others and alumni attend this event. Also in attendance was the chapter¢s faculty advisor Lyndsay Richter who serves as the Director of Marketing at UNCC.
Michelle Goubadia, who serves at the Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life at UNCC, gave the keynote address. Other featured speakers included Michael Tilley, Epsilon Tau ’14, who is the current Epsilon Tau Chapter president, Rumpf, Vaughn, and Smoll. Morgan delivered the Installation Address, in which he encouraged the collegiate members to continue to strive for excellence.
In addition to the speeches, the collegiate members presented several awards based on the six principles of the Fraternity to several outstanding brothers. Morgan also made a $100 donate to the Epsilon Tau Heritage Fund and honored Tilley as a Collegiate Sustaining Member (CSM). In recognition of their chartering, the collegiate members also presented to Morgan and Smoll a custom designed green pickaxe which is symbolic of the 49er mascot that represents UNCC. The pickaxe will be displayed at the Headquarters in Warrensburg for visitors to see.
