BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA – Sig Tau is officially a part of Blazer Nation. On Friday, October 12, the Eta Kappa Associate Chapter was installed at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). The next afternoon on Saturday, October 13, 11 Founding Fathers were initiated into Sig Tau.

The 11 men are involved in a wide variety of areas on campus including, Research Lab, TrailBlazers (university tour guides), Good Games UAB, ROTC, Club Volleyball team, Resident Assistant, and the Filipino Student Association.

They have already begun participating in campus and community events as a chapter including a day of service event “Into the Streets” hosted by UAB’s Leadership & Service Council. Members spent the morning of Saturday, October 6 volunteering at Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve. They are also already working with other Greek organizations, athletic teams, and service groups to continue to get involved on campus this fall.

“As I was coming into college I never thought I would join a fraternity because of the stigma that is generally associated with them, but when I heard about Sig Tau, my perspective quickly changed,” Alan Roper, Director of Recruitment said. “I decided to join Sigma Tau Gamma because it gave me the opportunity to join a group of Noble Men who want to be different than the stigma that most fraternities have. Sig Tau has already given me opportunities to make a difference through leadership and to help build generations of Noble Men. I hope that I can give back to it as much as it has and will give to me.”

The Eta Kappa Chapter is now the 178th Chapter in Sig Tau’s 98-year history. UAB now joins Alabama and Auburn as the third chapter in the state of Alabama.
