HOUGHTON, MICHIGAN – Sigma Tau Gamma Headquarters has learned that Brother Benjamin Younglao, Michigan Tech., entered Chapter Eternal on Tuesday, October 6, 2020. His brothers described him as β€œβ€¦a kind and caring brother who cared deeply about those around him.”

Ben was a third-year Mechanical Engineering student at Michigan Tech. He was initiated in 2018 and served as Director of Recruitment for the Gamma Chi Chapter.

Gamma Chi Chapter President Seth Jensen-Younk said Ben was one of the hardest working and most caring brothers in the chapter.

β€œHe focused on academics, and because of him, the chapter focused more on our academics. He wanted everyone to succeed in the classroom and helped rebuild our academic plan to make sure everyone in the chapter was successful in their education.”

Ben cared deeply about his academics, but his passion was recruitment. Brothers said he would connect with everyone and made an effort to put together one of the best associate members classes the Gamma Chi Chapter has seen in years.

β€œHe was not just surface level, he wanted to have deeper conversations because he cared about people and had a passion for recruitment. We would have struggled with recruitment without him. He reached out to every group of guys and could relate and connect with so many people. He had a larger impact than he knew.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Younglao family, their loved ones, the Michigan Tech. community, and our Brothers of the Gamma Chi Chapter.

If you would like to make a donation in Ben’s honor, the family is asking for donations to be made to FNV Hockey or the Freeland Athletic Association.

Headquarters Staff is working with chapter leadership, local alumni, and campus administration to provide additional support and access to resources for our members.
