On Friday, November 4, 2017, in Detroit, the Alpha Pi Associate Chapter of Sigma Tau Gamma was reinstalled at Wayne State. The Associate Chapter Installation was held in the Wayne State Student Center and welcomed 11 Refounding Fathers. The ceremony was conducted by Recruitment and Growth Coordinator Ben Nelson, Washington State, and Jeff Scheumann, Indiana State. Also in attendance were parents and friends of the Refounding Fathers.
The Alpha Pi Chapter originally chartered on May 24, 1951. The group of men that reestablished the chapter had a desire to create a noble generation of men on campus. Expansion efforts were led by Recruitment & Growth Coordinator Ben Nelson, Washington State, with assistance from Recruitment & Growth Coordinator Josh Marshall, Central Missouri. Refounding Fathers of the Associate Chapter range from freshman to senior, all from the state of Michigan. Their majors include Chemical and Civil Engineering, Finance, Nutrition Science, Marketing, Public Relations, Psychology, Global Supply Chain Management, and Journalism.
Following the Installation Ceremony, the Associate Chapter participated in their first chapter meeting. During the meeting, the Associate Chapter was introduced to the Path of Principles New Member Education Program and general chapter information and discussed chartering benchmarks. Associate Chapter President Charlie Strawser said he is excited about the new opportunity.
“As the new President, I’m looking to start this Fraternity on the right path. It is my goal for this Fraternity to have a lasting impact on the City of Detroit. With the bright members of our Fraternity, I know we will be able to make a difference.”
