Western Michigan University (Chi) Provisional Chapter Installed

KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN – On Friday, October 30, 2015, Sigma Tau Gamma – Western Michigan University, Chi Chapter was re-installed as a new Provisional Chapter in Kalamazoo, MI. The Provisional Chapter Installation and Officers Installation Ceremony was held in the Bernhard Center and welcomed 22 Re-Founding Fathers. The ceremony was conducted by Recruitment and Growth Coordinator Dean Anderson, Purdue ’12, and the newly appointed Chapter Advisory Team Lead Advisor Chadwick Kern, Michigan Tech ’08. Also in attendance for the ceremony were members of the Fraternity and Sorority Life Staff; parents and friends of Re-Founding Fathers; and members from Western Michigan’s Phi Gamma Delta, Alpha Xi Delta, Chi Omega, and Delta Zeta chapters.

Establishing the new Provisional Chapter at Western Michigan marks the reactivation of the Chi Chapter, which was originally chartered on December 19, 1940. Expansion on campus began October 1, 2015 and was conducted by Recruitment and Growth Coordinator Dean Anderson, Purdue ’12. Re-Founding Fathers of the Provisional Chapter represent freshmen through juniors and include members of Business Connections Club, Entrepreneurship Club, Residence Hall Association, and dance. Their majors include engineering, music, aviation, and pre-med to name a few.

On Saturday following the installation, the Provisional Chapter participated in a retreat hosted by Headquarters staff. During the retreat, the Provisional Chapter was introduced to the history of the Fraternity and Path of Principles New Member Education Program, the Fraternity’s Social Excellence model, recruitment training, as well as discussed chartering benchmarks. Provisional Chapter President Jon French said, “I am excited for the unification of likeminded, driven individuals that want to make a positive impact and succeed here at Western Michigan.”  The undergraduates will be initiated on Saturday, November 21.  To volunteer to assist with Initiation or to get involved as a member of the Chapter Advisory Team, please contact Collegiate Services Coordinator, Rick Day, at rday@sigmataugamma.org.

Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity was founded by veterans of World War I in Warrensburg, Missouri at the University of Central Missouri. On June 28, 2020 it will commemorate its 100th Anniversary.
