Youngstown State Student Leader Zane Perrico Received Two Awards from University’s Board of Trustees
CARMEL, INDIANA – When Youngstown State University’s Board of Trustees closed its final meeting of the semester, brother Zane Perrico was recognized with two awards that recognized his exceptional service and leadership. These awards, one acknowledging his service and another a resolution passed in appreciation of his contributions, marked brother Perrico’s two‑year term as a student representative of the university’s Board of Trustees.
The Youngstown State Board of Trustees are made up of volunteer leaders who serve as the executive decision-making body for the university. For the past two years, brother Perrico has been one of only two student representatives serving alongside them. These two student representatives are positions appointed directly by the Governor of Ohio after a highly selective interview process.
During brother Perrico’s term, he became a key bridge between university leadership and the student body. As a member of the military, a campus leader, and the public relations coordinator for Student Government, he leveraged every position he held to make sure students had a voice where it mattered most.
Brother Perrico credits his leadership development to the principles he has learned through Sigma Tau Gamma. He shared that he joined Sig Tau because he admired the leaders within the Beta Gamma Chapter, as many of the brothers also held leadership roles on campus. He also shared that his experience at Noble Man Institute shaped his leadership approach, teaching him that effective leadership is not just about direction but about unity.
“Sig Tau taught me that leadership is engaging and involving others. It’s not just telling people what to do, it’s showing them why it matters, and building on their strengths.”
As brother Perrico prepares to graduate from Youngstown State University, he is reflecting on the legacy he hopes to leave behind. His message to students emphasizes that college is not only about getting a valuable education, but also getting involved as much as possible. Whether it’s through volunteering, attending events, or stepping into leadership roles, brother Perrico believes students should immerse themselves fully in college life.
“If people see me getting involved, going to their events, showing up, I hope it encourages them to do the same. College is about creating yourself.”
