Arizona State Provisional Chapter Installed

Sigma Tau Gamma conducted the Ceremony of Installation at Arizona State University. The Arizona State University provisional chapter welcomed family, friends, students and University Administrators to watch the ceremony. This is the first time Sigma Tau Gamma has had a provisional chapter at Arizona State University.

Epsilon Chi Receives Charter

February 5, 2014 – 37th National President, Tom Morgan, Phi ’85, presented a charter on Saturday February 1, 2014 to 75 collegiate members of the Epsilon Chi Chapter at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. The installation ceremony was held at the Auburn Marriott Opelika Hotel & Conference Center at Grand National on Saturday evening. This marked the official welcome of the collegiate members of Epsilon Chi Chapter to the Brotherhood of Sigma Tau Gamma.

More than 150 people, which included Auburn University Officials, family members, significant others and Sigma Tau Gamma alumni attended this event. Amanda Clare, Interfraternity Council Graduate Advisor and William Whittelsey, Auburn Interfraternity Council President, represented Auburn University Greek Life at the event. Notable Sig Tau alumni in attendance included: Southern Region Vice President Drew Allen, Gamma Omega ’06, Morgan, and Vice President of Strategic Growth, Michael Smoll, Delta ’03.

Lewallen and Western Join Staff

Sigma Tau Gamma is proud to announce the newest additions to the Talented Tau team. Brian Lewallen, Gamma Phi ’13, and Jacob Western, CSM, Gamma Phi ’13 join the expansion team.

Lewallen graduated from the University of Southern Indiana this December where he was a double major in Spanish and international studies. As a member of the Gamma Phi Chapter, Lewallen served as the risk management chair, secretary and the public relations chair. He was also a staff member for freshman orientation and international orientation. In addition, he served as the Spanish club vice president. In his free time, he likes to work out, spend time outdoors and travel abroad. He has traveled abroad six times and lived over a year in Spain.

Beta Xi Receives Charter

37th National President, Tom Morgan, Phi ’85, presented a charter on Saturday November 23, 2013 to 40 collegiate members of the Beta Xi Chapter at Winona State University in Winona, Minnesota. The installation ceremony was held on campus at the Tau Center, officially welcoming them to the Brotherhood of Sigma Tau Gamma.

More than 150 people, including family members, significant others and Sigma Tau Gamma alumni, attended this event. Notable Sig Tau alumni in attendance included: provisional chapter mentor Paul Motin, Beta Xi ’82, Lakeland District Director Andy Tretow, Kappa ’12, Director of Expansion Derek Kaimann, Beta ’09 and Vice President of Strategic Growth, Michael Smoll, Delta ’03.

Tretow Named Lakeland District Director

Andy Tretow, CSM, Kappa ’12 (University of Wisconsin-Whitewater), has been appointed as the Lakeland District Director in the Great Lakes region.

As the Lakeland District Director, Tretow will assist Regional Vice President Bobby Slater, CSM, Alpha Omega ’08 (Missouri University of Science and Technology), by providing support to chapters in the Great Lakes Region.

Smoll and Kaimann Promoted

Sigma Tau Gamma Chief Executive Officer William P. Bernier, Iota ’71, has announced two Headquarters staff advancements. Derek Kaimann, Beta ’09, has been promoted to Director of Expansion and Michael Smoll, Delta ’03, has been promoted to Vice President of Strategic Growth.

From 2011 to May 2013, Kaimann (left) served the Headquarters staff as an expansion counselor. He helped to start and re-organize chapters at eight campuses over four semesters. These include: University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Florida Institute of Technology, Purdue University, University of Illinois, University of Alabama, Auburn University, Carnegie Mellon University and Oklahoma State University.

37th National President, Tom Morgan, Phi ’85, presented a charter on Saturday November 2, 2013 to 85 collegiate members of the Epsilon Phi Chapter at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The installation ceremony was held on campus in the Ferguson Center for the collegiate men who helped start the chapter, officially welcoming them to the Brotherhood of Sigma Tau Gamma.

More than 120 people, which included family members, significant others and Sigma Tau Gamma alumni attended this event. Collegiate members from the Phi Chapter at Southeast Louisiana State University also attended to show their support for the new chapter.

Epsilon Upsilon Receives Charter

The 37th National President Tom Morgan, Phi ’85, presented a charter on Sunday October 20, 2013 to 47 collegiate members of the Epsilon Upsilon Chapter at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia. The installation ceremony was held on the campus of Virginia Tech, officially welcoming them to the Brotherhood of Sigma Tau Gamma. More than 70 people, which included family members, significant others and Sigma Tau Gamma alumni attended this event.

National Philanthropy Chairmen Named

Executive Vice President Bill Bernier, DMF, Iota ’71, has named Joy Helsel the National Philanthropy Chairman and Pat Gotham, CSM, Epsilon Rho ’11, the National Philanthropy Vice Chairman. Joy serves as Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life at California University of Pennsylvania, home to the Beta Iota Chapter. Pat is a graduate assistant for leadership development at the University of Connecticut. Together, they will work to support Sigma Tau Gamma’s three-part national philanthropy program.

According to the Fraternity’s Strategic Plan and McCune Metrics program, each chapter is to organize annually an event to support Special Olympics, our national philanthropy; and an event to support a local chapter philanthropy partner; and an event to support the philanthropy event of another fraternity or sorority on their campus.

New District Announced in Southern Region

Sigma Tau Gamma announces the new Southwest District in the Southern Region due to tremendous expansion efforts in Arizona and Nevada in 2014 and 2015.

With the recent announcements to expand to Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University and the University of Nevada, Erik Kahl, WCMF, Beta Kappa ’10, will oversee these chapters as the Southwest District Director. The Epsilon Zeta Chapter at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will also be included in the Southwest District.

Helsel to Receive Distinguished Interfraternal Leadership Award

The Sigma Tau Gamma Board of Directors has named Joy Helsel the inaugural recipient of the Distinguished Interfraternal Leadership Award and will be presented this award at the Stan Musial Strategic Leadership Conference in August.

The Distinguished Interfraternal Leadership Award is presented to a campus-based professional who advances the quality of fraternity and sorority involvement.
